About David R. Stokes

David R. Stokes (52) has served as Senior Pastor of FAIR OAKS CHURCH in Fairfax, VA (www.fairoakschurch.org) for eleven years. Prior to this he led a congregation in Nassau County (Long Island , New York) for 12 years. His earlier ministry experiences included pastorates in Illinois and Texas.

A 1977 graduate of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO, he later earned a Bachelor's degree in history from the Regents College of the University of the State of New York and a Master of Arts degree in political science from Long Island University- C.W. Post College. His M. A. thesis focused on the Cold War. His interest in this aspect of 20th century history has led to his personal involvement with the Fairfax, Virginia based Cold War Museum, a Smithsonian affiliate ( www.coldwar.org), founded by, Francis Gary Powers, Jr.

Throughout his ministry he has been involved in broadcasting- starting with producing a news program on his college radio station in Springfield, MO. He has hosted his own talks show, heard across North America, called "DAVID STOKES LIVE," and has shared a variety of daily features on the radio in the Washington, D.C. area. He has filled in for Salem Communication Talk Show Hosts, Don Kroah (WAVA in Washington DC), Bob Burney (WRFD- Columbus,Ohio), and Kevin McCullough (WMCA- New York City)- and has appeared as a guest on Fox News.

He writes a weekly column, usually with a "history in the news" theme, that appears every Sunday at www.townhall.com. His columns are also posted at www.thenewnixon.com - the site sponsored by the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, CA.

In addition to his columns, historical and biographical articles by David R. Stokes have appeared in PREACHING MAGAZINE, THE COLD WAR TIMES, BAPTIST BIBLE TRIBUNE, & THE INTELLIGENCER (published by the Association for Intelligence Officers www.afio.com).

David and his wife, Karen, have been married for more than 33 years and have three daughters: Mrs. Jennifer Vaughan (husband-Tom), Mrs. Deborah White (husband- David), and Mrs. Brenda Zizolfo (husband- Mike). Much more importantly, they also have 5 grandchildren: David and Karen Vaughan, Ashton and Vinny Zizolfo ,and Grayson David White.

FAIR OAKS CHURCH is a culturally diverse congregation (more than 30 nations represented in its membership) - located in the heart of Fairfax County in beautiful Northern Virginia. The 24 acre campus includes multiple buildings, ball fields, a picnic pavilion, and a gymnasium, as well as a state of the art Worship Center and education complex. David speaks at the church most weekends on Saturdays at 5 PM and Sundays at 9:00 & 10:45 a.m.
