Biographical Information About Reverend David R. Stokes

A broadcaster, writer, and minister for more than 32 years, Reverend David R. Stokes (53) has served as Senior Pastor of Fair Oaks Church (www.LoudOnPurpose.com) in Fairfax, VA, since August of 1998.  Prior to this, he served churches in New York, Illinois, Ohio, and Texas. 

Fair Oaks Church is a congregation made up of approximately 2,300 – with more than 30 nations represented in the membership.   Pastor Stokes’ messages blend current events and history with the scripture – and some humor, as well.

Stokes is the author of “APPARENT DANGER—The Pastor of America’s First Megachurch and the Texas Murder Trial of the Decade in the 1920s,” and writes a weekly feature discussing current events in the light of history.  These “History in the News” articles appear on-line at Townhall (www.townhall.com), the Richard Nixon Historical Foundation (www.thenewnixon.org), and other places such as History News Network (www.hnn.us).  His personal website is www.davidstokes.org.

David’s broadcasting work over the years has included hosting his own national radio talk show (“David Stokes Live”—Salem Communications) as well as guest hosting work in markets across America.

Currently, he is the host and speaker for LOUD ON PURPOSE, a daily 30-minute teaching program based in Washington, D.C. and heard on various stations around the country, as well as nationally (with Canada and Mexico) on XM Satellite Radio Channel 170 “Family Talk.” For more information about this endeavor, go to www.LoudOnPurposeRadio.com.

Along with his early ministry education in theology and divinity (Master of Divinity), he holds degrees in history and political science from the State University of New York (Bachelor) and Long Island University/C.W. Post College (Master of Arts).

David has been married to his wife Karen for more than 33 years. They have three married daughters and await the arrival of their seventh grandchild.  They divide their time between homes in Northern Virginia and Florida’s Treasure Coast.
